Universal Remote Research and Review

An awesome home entertainment system is great but keeping up with the various remotes that control all the components is a hassle. They clutter up the room and the one you need never seems to be within reach of where you're sitting. Lucky for us, there's a solution. Today's universal remotes are so intuitively smart, it's like they have a little techie hiding inside. They're amazingly easy to program to control everything from the TV, DVD, stereo and even the lights in the room. Some of them even have a docking station so they never need batteries. The 3LUXE research team got a workout "clicking" to find you our three "Best Of" universal remote picks. Now, if we could only find a remote to control the rest of our lives.

At 3LUXE we do the research you would do, if you had more time.

What about Universal Remote Control's URC RF20 or RF30? When combined with the URC PowerBlaster MRF-100B, it utilizes RF technology (in addition to the standard IR technology) to control your components. It has a number of manufacturer preprogrammed codes for your components as well as a learning capability. To accomplish several functions, it also has macro capabilities. The only downside I can see (with the RF20) is that you cannot move the menus/sub menus around to different pages (that make more sense to you) and that it consumes battery life all the time (goes through approximately 8 AAA per year...4 at a time).
